Various facets of workplace diversity

By Jyoti Kukreja

They say that team cohesion is important for workplace productivity. To stay focus one needs to be united and not scattered and diverse in their thinking formats; the question then is why diversity is significant?

Diversity in the form of religion is much known but is managed through a secular leave policy where leave is granted on all occasion of festive celebrations. The culture of celebration of all the festivals with different dress up in organizations is practiced. An educated personnel from reputed higher educational institutions such as JIMS Kalkaji where the sessions on gender sensitivity, transgenders are conducted help to iron out those perceptive differences based on gender. Special focus on gender equity is reiterated such as workshops on self defence, hostel facilities, etc.

Yes, of course now you would say that this is crucial for complying with various rules and regulations of social inclusion and financial equity in the country: but does this not mean an additional burden on the organizations’ responsibilities?

The task of diversity has led to jobs for many trainers to work on various aspects of diversity such as cultural sensitivity, time management, working on various formats of database management, communication with clients, digital marketing tools among many others.

The challenge that emerges is how to secure customer satisfaction on different parameters? The question is mammoth: that is how to break the ice of the mental blocks? How to ensure transparency and faith in thoughts? The bliss of being united is most sought after and imaginary than in reality.

Company profile:

Dreenk Incorporation was flourishing with returns. Not only had the variety on the catalogue but the warehousing facility located in various parts of the world helped them to benefit with huge sales volume. This was a company well known into the food and beverages industry and was ambitious to match the market share of the well known brands in the Indian market such as Parle Agro.

No matter how many innumerable trainings and workshops have been conducted by various schools and colleges but the idea to become gender neutral just does not cease to exist.

When it comes to handling various jobs, one gender is preferred over the other especially for the roles that involve site marketing, distribution, warehousing etc. males are considered to be an appropriate choice than females as they have more physical prowess than females. This is the organizational culture that is prevalent till date in almost all countries. Males, thus tend to study less and focus on building their physical flexibility and strength to carry out such tasks that the world outside are going to allocate them for money. Males are biologically also attuned to focus on movement.

The world was facing the worst time of pandemic where deaths became fairly common if not safeguarded. More than anything else delivery of the products was the prime concern. Considering more of the physical strength than men bear it were seen most of the males delivering through the various online forums such as Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, etc.

Mr. Richie is the director of marketing department for this firm. At the moment, his organization is made up of team of executives consisting of all males. Though the company had been touting that it is an equal and diversity employer but the fact of the matter is just the opposite. Males are considered to be more robust withstanding the sensitivity of market places without being confused over in their thinking processes of managing and balancing between child care responsibilities, family health care management, etc. females have little or no scope for in this industry type.

If you are a budding manager who is working or you are a faculty teaching management I want you to invest yourself in the questions that I put forth for you to ponder as mentioned below:

Now that we are moving towards the gender neutral world do we still need to look into the gender based decision? Is that right to protect gender? Why or why not do you think that merit should lose meaning and biases and preferences of one gender over the other need to be maintained? Do you think that this gender divide will continue? Anytime you think that the movement of feminism can come to a halt for good as fair treatment has already become a reality? If you were to support HR laws of equal women on the board, how would you?
