The profession offers and shapes the intellect, quotient for diverse learning and most importantly, the execution skills required in every industry, every sector and every business across the world. The wide spectrum of functions within the domain of management offers a flexibility to learners to choose their specializations according to their interest, expertise and even allows them to shift their preferences later in life as they build their career over the years. The understanding of geo-political environment, economic drivers, social behavior and consumer knowledge enables a student of management to develop deep analytical , problem solving and critical thinking skills which are not only important to prosper in a management career but essentially, can be termed as ‘ life’ skills imminent to tread the path of life in a decisive manner.  This is a profession which opens doors towards numeracy and research and develops innovations which are crucial for growth of businesses and can sometimes become disruptive creativity which redefines the ways of life completely.

Undoubtedly, since time immemorial, management, as a career option has been considered to be a passport to multi dimensional roles and that also explains the exponential rise in demand for the course and mushrooming of large number of business schools all over the world to meet the growing demand of industries. India, too, is witnessing a similar learning curve. But numbers need to justify quality. The value addition that is required in these schools needs to address on a serious note. In other words, B-Schools have to look beyond the traditional role of providing intuitive teaching of management. They have to assume greater responsibility in creating an ecosystem of experimentation, intellectually stimulating, conspicuously collaborative and driven by need for excellence. ‘Innovation’ is the new mantra that should actually drive the careers today. Management, as a profession, offers this spectrum of innovation, which can be of people, process or functional and rises to the definite need of the hour which is to transgress the boundaries of rote learning, cliché interpretation of facts and make progressive changes to deal with both technical and adaptive problems surrounding them. A career in management helps redefining the knowledge in order to emerge as agile leaders of tomorrow.

Multiple avenues in management roles  provides a mechanism through  which these managers transform the traditional roles and emerge as  creators of deep learning, and encourage life enhancing building of skills amongst their team members. Skillful management of stakeholders and learning to take decisions, leadership in thinking and following change rather than merely leading through followers is the new way of leadership definition. MBAs are often found to be adept at creative thinking, innovative ability and technology leadership, which, incidentally are  the domains which needs to be synced for better output. Career in management provides a holistic approach and a vibrant interplay between theory and practical application would enable managers to gain better exposure and develop an urge and aptitude for future research and innovation. Conventional genres of marketing, finance and human resource management are just the foundational blocks and not an end. Businesses have become far more complex and dynamic today due to globalization and technological advancements. Need for constant up gradation in knowledge is imperative. Hence courses that are designed for   executives – middle, senior- can go a long way in making a profession in management meaningful and also, at the same time pose a need for constant benchmarking.

Thus, no doubt, management is considered as one of the most lucrative and enriching professions, yet, the success of this professional career lies on the relevance of constant value addition not only to business but also to themselves.  A manager who works on keeping the trajectory of self learning, self up gradation and self belief constantly rising, is definitely going to the future leader of today and tomorrow.
