From Chairman's Desk

Dear Student

Some form of conflict in our everyday live, is inevitable in the workplace, at home, or even in public places. While we may try and avoid such conflicts, it is next to impossible to do so in the real world. We can face a conflict while driving on the roads, purchasing goods in the market, parenting the children, interacting with partner or spouse or also with our colleagues. It is important to keep in mind some points on how to manage such conflicts better in our daily lives. One of the first things to keep in mind while dealing with a conflictual situation is to avoid making assumptions but be willing to engage in a conversation and talk about the issue. The problem at hand should be identified clearly. Many a times we prefer to accommodate to the needs and concerns of the opposing party in the interest of ending the conflict. However, ideally a collaborative approach is recommended in which both parties cooperate to understand each other's concerns and work towards finding a mutually satisfying solution. There is also one’s own sense of self-respect to develop effective strategies to deal with conflicting situations. As part of the larger picture, be willing to negotiate and compromise, in the interest of the relationships. It is very easy to get swayed in the heat of the discussion and finding faults becomes a natural tendency. Regardless of the reasons to be blamed for the conflict arising in the first place, it is definitely more beneficial to focus on that solution to the existing problem. As conflicts are an inherent part and parcel of our lives, ignoring or avoiding them is not going to be helpful in the long run, managing them is the only way.
